[tl;dr] we'll collaborate together so you can figure out the life you want and how to get there. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * i work with... men who want to connect to the people they care about, men entering different phases of their lives looking for empathy & understanding, men struggling to communicate with their partners & men investigating the values and beliefs they were taught. my practice is... person centered, narrative & existential in its theoretical approaches. clients looking for directive feedback can work with me on custom tailored experiments to improve their quality of life and communication with others. how i see therapy... you are the expert in your life, even though it may not always feel like it. no one else knows you like you know yourself. but, if i can learn to understand the world through your eyes, your voice, and your beliefs, we can create a space together where you can sort through your life and develop your personal sense of meaning without fear of judgment or dismissal. i am committed to helping... my clients learn how to understand & love themselves so they can more fully enjoy their life, career & relationships. my practice is grounded in empathy & a strong desire to understand you as a human. progress follows being seen, being heard & being understood. my work centers on... the challenges that men from varied backgrounds face in living their most fulfilling lives. i use the word 'man' in therapy as a starting point for anyone who identifies in their own way with the word. gender is one of our most deeply-rooted identities; creating your own definitions can be life changing. so if you’re interested... in scheduling a consultation, please call, email or send an appointment request. i look forward to hearing from you, answering your questions & hopefully helping out if i can. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * a bit about me... i'm john, a licensed professional counselor, a musician & a retired hospitality professional. i left cooking after 25 years to earn a degree in clinical mental health counseling from loyola university chicago. my internships included work in a third generation legacy practice of carl rogers’ university of chicago counseling center where his client centered therapy model was developed, tested and revised. i then developed my own models for counseling non-carrying partners experiencing fertility, pregnancy &/or postpartum challenges in their relationship(s) while working in a women’s perinatal mental health practice. in 2021 i moved to atlanta where i have since completed my therapy training and live closer to family.
